Message from Friends of Vauxhall Park

… to ‘Friends’ and those who’d like to become one! Read about what they do and up-coming events (e.g. Summer Fair 18 June)

“Dear Friend,

I hope you have managed to visit the Park during the recent glorious weather and seen how lovely it is looking.  This is in large part due to the wonderful volunteer gardeners who maintain the entrance beds and the planting around the model village.  We were recently visited by the Green Flag judges – part of the criteria for a Green Flag park is that it is welcoming and well maintained so, if the park is lucky enough to be recognised by them again, we will owe our gardeners an even bigger vote of thanks!  A team from the Russia and Ukraine Desks at the Foreign Office visited the park recently for an office ‘awayday’.  After a introduction to the Park and its history from myself, they set to work clearing and cleaning.  They cleared the bed in front of the Green building and this will be replanted imminently by our volunteer gardeners with plants paid for by the Plant Stall at the Summer Fair and FOVP funds.

I have some dates for your diary:  On Sunday 18 June from 2-5pm the Summer Fair will again be alive with enjoyment and laughter.  Once again, it has been sponsored very generously by Winkworth Kennington.  Please could we ask for your help – we need people to put up gazebos and signs from 10am, stewards during the event (2-5pm) and help to take it all down again at the end of the day.  We are very fortunate that Christine Homer stepped in to organise the fair so please support her.  The fair is being held during the Great Get Together weekend when we are being encouraged to celebrate our communities and forge new friendship with our neighbours in the spirit of Jo Cox.  Let’s make this fair worthy of her memory.

The Members Party will take place on Tuesday 4 July from 7pm on Parco’s terrace.  Please come to enjoy Latin American rhythms and Pimms on a (hopefully) sunny evening.

Lastly, I am very grateful to Anne Rogers who has taken over from me as Membership Secretary.  Her email is FOVP@72f.org if you have any membership queries.  This has freed me up to concentrate on various projects including making sure that the developments springing up alongside the Park deliver investment in to the Park so it is fit to welcome our many new neighbours.  Lambeth will be consulting on the long awaited Masterplan at the Summer Fair so do come along and make your views known. We won’t have another chance like this!

Kind regards

Polly Freeman
