From Helen & Pauline
TfL’s latest consultation document is due to appear this month, and they say they will apply for planning permission “this Spring” to demolish the Bus Station and rebuild.
Our world has changed drastically since the inception of TFL’s plan, and Helen and I have been mulling over the options for the future. We are asking ourselves:
Should this scheme still be happening?
We are pleased and grateful for the very welcome improvements to cycle ways, the train station and to the tube, but the Bus Station and Gyratory?
Years of disruption, due to begin just as the neighbouring towers are completed, the fantastic cost at a time of financial hardship and uncertain future prosperity, inadequate improvements in air quality, reduction of pedestrian space around the bus stops combined with massive population increase locally, increased waiting times to cross surrounding roads, the oppressive bulk of another slab of real estate in the place of the bus platform – for what of real value? Nothing that we do not have already, or that could not be achieved in a simpler, cheaper, less disruptive way.
Sadiq Khan should tell TFL to properly consider other options before we are locked into an outdated solution.
Our letters to TFL are not reaching Sadiq – let’s try writing direct to our GLA members and pointing this out:
