Kennington Park – news & events

GREEN FLAG: The Friends of Kennington Park are delighted to announce that, for the sixth year running, Kennington Park has been awarded a prestigious Green Flag – a national standard of excellence for parks and open spaces.   Our thanks go to Kevin Wallace and his team at Lambeth Landscapes (formerly Veolia), Iain Boulton of Lambeth Council, Amanda Rew our “Expert Gardener” and her gardeners, the FOKP members and all the amazing volunteer gardeners who worked so hard. There will be a hoisting of the new Green Flag after the summer holidays, date to be notified.

VOLUNTEER GARDENING: In August, Amanda Rew is taking a well-earned rest from her
monthly gardening sessions in the Flower Garden.   She will start up her sessions on Sunday 11th September and Monday 12th September between noon and 4pm, meeting in the Flower Garden.   Amanda will probably do a herb walk on Saturday , 10th September, details nearer the time.

On Sunday, 14th August between noon and 4pm, Marietta will be running a volunteer gardening session in Kennington Park.   Meeting place at noon outside the park cafe, otherwise look out for her and the FOKP sign in the park or flower garden.  No horticultural skills required.  Tools and gardening gloves will be provided.

BATS – Early warning – Iain Boulton is doing another bat walk in Kennington Park, it will be on Saturday, 10th September at 7.40pm, meeting place will be the noticeboard by the entrance to the flower garden.   Bat detectors will be provided and, hopefully, some bats will do a fly by!
