TfLbriefing: “We would like to let you know that London Highways Alliance Contract (LoHAC) workers, on behalf of Transport for London (TfL), are planning to carry out resurfacing works on the A3 Kennington Lane. To do this, we need to close sections of the A3 Kennington Lane to ensure the safety of workers and the public whilst the works are being carried out. Why are we doing this work? This work is part of the Road Modernisation Plan, the biggest investment for a generation consisting of hundreds of projects to transform junctions, bridges, tunnels and pedestrian areas. Working with London’s boroughs it will make our roads safer and more reliable. We need to resurface the road here as it has reached the end of its serviceable life.
The new road will provide a smooth and safe surface and also avoid the need for further maintenance in the near future. Where and when will the work take place? The works are planned to start on Sunday 14 February 2016 and continue for approximately two weeks, depending on the weather conditions. The map below shows the areas affected. The works will be carried out between 21:00 and 05:00, Sunday to Thursday nights only. What we would like you to know Diversion routes will be in place via Kennington Road,
Kennington Park Road, Kennington Oval and Harleyford Road as well as minor localised diversions. Where road closures are unnecessary we will put in some lane closures and temporary pedestrian facilities to ensure the safety of those using the road. We will make every effort to ensure that noisy operations are completed before midnight although vehicle reversing warning beepers will be in use to protect workers and the public. Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times during the works. Keeping London moving We have worked closely with LoHAC and the London Borough of Lambeth to reduce the impact of these works on road users, local residents and businesses as far as possible.
