An application seeking planning permission for redevelopment of the site (17 Newport Street) at the junction of Newport Street and Whitgift Street has been lodged with Lambeth Council (Ref:15/06029/FUL). The proposed development is for demolition of the existing residential building and the erection of a 15-storey building of contemporary design to provide 12 private flats (4 x 1-bedroom, 7 x 2-bedroom and 1 x 3-bedroom).
Public consultation on the proposals is underway, all those immediately joining the site have been notified by letter in accordance with the Statement of Community Involvement, but residents in the wider area are also encouraged to review proposals and submit any comments. The official deadline for comments is the 20th November, however, officers have advised that any late submissions would still be taken into consideration.
