“Richborne Terrace residents were out in full bloom on Saturday 3rd October for their Big Plant Off. Residents persuaded Lambeth Council to re-pave the street and in the process create seven flower beds. We secured £1,500 from local residents, Winkworth Estate Agents and Mount Anvil property developer. Tessa King Farlow, garden expert, designed flower beds which will provide year round colour and interest. Croxted Road Garden Centre provided most of the plants, their prices were highly competitive added to which they through in a 10% discount and free delivery. 32 residents (adults and children) began the Big Plant Off at 8.30 a.m. by digging in the compost, before plants were distributed to each of the flower beds and dug in according to Tessa’s beautiful flower bed designs. The final touch was laying down weed matting and covering it with Cotswolds stone chippings so that drivers and passengers alighting from vehicles would keep their shoes clean and avoid stepping on the plants. Thank you, everyone, who gave freely of: their time, expertise, resources – financial and or physical and sometimes both. Thanks to Michael for the photos and Katherine for the scrumptious home made rock cakes and sausage rolls. Special thanks to all the children that came to help but who couldn’t stay to the end – you deserve to be in this last photo too.
