Tomorrow: Weeding initiative to prevent herbicides on our pavements

From Bonnington Square Garden Association

“TO ALL RESIDENTS

Lambeth Council routinely sprays weeds on pavements with toxic chemicals called herbicides.

An article from Scientific American quotes: ‘..an environmental group petitioned Argentina’s Supreme Court, seeking a temporary ban on glyphosate use after an Argentine scientist and local activists reported a high incidence of birth defects and cancers in people living near crop-spraying areas. Scientists there also linked genetic malformations in amphibians to glysophate. In addition, last year in Sweden, a scientific team found that exposure is a risk factor for people developing

non-Hodgkin lymphoma’ (SA June 23, 2009 )

IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT ON YOUR DOORSTEP, IN YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD, IN YOUR HOME, IN YOUR BODY?

To avoid the council’s standard response to summer weed proliferation on our pavements (i.e. toxic chemical spray) two mornings of weedclearing will take place in Bonnington Square, Langley Lane and Vauxhall Grove.

Tools will be provided (bring your own spade or trowel if you have them).

Saturday mornings from 10-12, 20th June and 4th July.

If you care about the environment PLEASE join your neighbours and support this initiative.

Thanks
